Squalane is an all-natural component of human sebum and can be obtained from olives. This highly moisturizing product also makes an effective makeup remover when massaged between palms to transform from balm-to-oil consistency, dissolving dirt and makeup before being rinsed away with water.

Squalane, naturally produced by our skin to maintain moisture balance, is one of the most stable oils around and naturally occurs as part of human sebum – making it highly compatible with skin.

Squalane is combined with lipophilic esters that are both gentle and moisturizing while being effective at dissolving makeup and facial impurities. When applied between palms, its texture shifts from balm-like to clear oil-like consistency as you rub, which allows emulsifying sucrose esters to trap impurities that have been released and blend them with water for easy rinsing.

The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser contains glycerin to keep skin hydrated and soft, trisodium ethylenediamine disuccinate to bind metal ions in water and protect other ingredients, and chlorphenamine as a preservative.

How to Use

The Squalane Cleanser is an ultra-gentle cleanser designed to dissolve makeup, oil and impurities from skin while simultaneously providing hydration. Featuring non-comedogenic and soap-free formulations that don’t over dry skin. Plus it features texture-changing ingredient Squalane as well as lipophilic esters which soothe and moisturize for extra hydration!

As it’s massaged between your hands, this transforms from a gel-like consistency into an oil-based consistency, which allows the emulsifying sucrose esters in its formula to trap makeup, oil and other impurities when you rinse your face off. Furthermore, its moisturizing glycerin attracts moisture deep within skin layers leaving skin soft and smooth.

I use The Ordinary’s Salicylic Acid 2% Anhydrous Solution daily as one of my cleansing products, following up after applying my Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum and prior to retinol 0.2% from The Ordinary. Just like eating toast first thing in the morning, this cleansing product provides me with so much pleasure every time I bite into it!
